Making for March

The " St Paddy's Hat" Pattern

I am so "over" winter... and can't wait for March to arrive!

I guess that's why I got busy and dug up some green fabrics to make a mini wallhanging , this weekend, for St. Patrick's Day.

The Pattern:   St Paddy's Hat       -a paper pieced pattern design by Janeen
@ Quilt Art Designs  from Paper Piecing 1/4" Magazine Issue 8

Size :   16 " square block

And here is my fininshed mini wallhanging-

This pattern was really fast and fun to make!  I may just use the shamrock section of this pattern  to make up something else before St Patrick's Day arrives!

Have you started any projects  for spring  yet?

I'm off to my sewing room!

Petite Fleurs Quilt

Petite Fleurs Quilt- "Millhouse Inn "

Petite Fleurs Quilt   by Susie's Sunroom
Was it cold outside recently?  I must have missed it , while sewing away in my sunroom,  working  on my Petite Fleurs quilt!!

Here are the quilt stats:

Pattern:    Petite Fleurs     by Fig Tree & Co   Joanna Figueroa   available here
Fabrics:    Millhouse Inn   Fig Tree & Company  by Moda  (2008)  - in my stash!
Size:    -   65" x 74"   after washing
Batting:   Warm and Natural 100% cotton
Thread:   Aurifil  #2024  50 weight
Quilting:   the "S" serpentine stitch on my Viking Topaz  and a rose leaf motif on the border (fmq)

The back of the quilt   - featuring the currant colorway

What's a currant ? In case you were wondering....

Currants
I pieced the backing.... featuring the Fig Tree currant colors

It was a fun journey making this quilt!  I love Joanna Figueroa's strip method of putting the blocks together.   I fell in love with each little block!

I used two different "clotted cream" background fabrics
And, I couldn't help but get out my vintage Nancy Drew "The Moss Covered Mansion" book....    these fabrics just belong in an old inn....

I decided to be brave, and try some free motion quilting on the borders.
I made up a simple rose leaf motif (of three leaves), and marked them with a washable magic marker to show me where to quilt.  (It did make some crinkles, so I was happy.)

One thing that never stresses me while quilting, is using the beautiful Aurifil thread!!

I think my Millhouse Inn Petite Fleurs quilt
gets the seal of approval from Whiskers

While sewing my binding on , I realized that the blocks made from the darker colors create round shapes!  This month's challenge, at the  Le Challenge blog, is ROUND !  I have submitted it for this month's challenge.   You can see the other beautiful  entries for this  challenge HERE.

February -One Monthly Goal

One Monthly Goal for February (OMG)

I have decided to set up a big goal for  myself this month....  and join in with  Heidi and the others at the  OMG group for inspiration.

Hosted by Heidi at Red Letter Day blog

*** Quilty Note:    One Monthly Goal is open to any quilter who would like to set (and achieve!) ONE monthly goal, and share the success in a group environment! This is a friendly and social linkup: Loitering is permitted and Participant's are encouraged to spread cheer: Encourage and congratulate one another!  see rules here

My February Goal:

Quilt and finish my Millhouse Inn  Petite Fleurs  quilt

This is the flimsy top for my   Petite Fleurs Quilt ....I started sewing  the quilt last week....  It came together a lot faster than I imagined it would!

Millhouse Inn   Petite Fleurs Quilt       by Susie's Sunroom

I have accumulated  hoarded  a HUGE pile of Millhouse Inn fabric  ( Fig Tree and Co  by Moda ), since about 2009!

The fabrics I set aside for this quilt.
And,  yes ... there is MORE fabric for more quilts to come!

( I think Millhouse Inn was my first fat quarter bundle of fabric that I purchased ,  and apparently I kept buying more  fabric each time that I found it on sale , to "go along" with that fat quarter bundle .  )

I bought the pattern back in 2009 or 2010, when I saw this design would work well with my Millhouse Inn stash obsession.  The pattern  has been sitting  on top of the fabrics, patiently waiting to be used.

I used the Millhouse Inn  "clotted cream" fabrics for my cream background fabric, too.
I hope  it will look shabby chic-ish after it is quilted.

So, now , I am deciding what kind of quilting to try on this 71" by 81 " quilt.
I better get started on it.

Note to self:   Remember to remove the persistent kitty helper before I start sewing!

Hop on over to Red Letter Quilts to see what other folks are working on this month for their goal.  And you can see more pictures in the Flickr group HERE.
