Busy Week

Amid the  Holiday Hustle and Bustle

It's almost Christmas, and I am so glad that I was able to get most of my gifts purchased and created earlier in the month.
My mother became ill suddenly, and I was not able to spend time at my sewing machine or blogging this past week.  She is much better now... and that is such a blessing!!

I did want to share some pictures of some of the things that I have made for the holiday season.

My friend, Maxine, invited me to sell items at at her table,  at a hand- crafted bazaar on the first weekend of December.
Some of my Purses and pouches and casserole carriers on the table

Maxine's husband made tall hat stands to hang her aprons and totes on,  (left side ) and the right side has my totes and purses.

My zippered pouches and small wallet sets, golf fabric totes and purses, and casserole carriers

See Maxine's super-sized Bow Tucks tote purse, and my Stella Pleated Bag and Rosie Patchwork Bag.  I made wine glass coasters, too

I had a LOT of key fobs to sell!!

Who is that peeking (hiding) behind my purses and totes?!
It's Maxine.... trying to hide behind the purses.    I got her to come out so you can meet her properly!

Meet Maxine !  We met at a JoAnn fabric store, at the thread department!

Maxine made these beautiful holiday table runners!!  The far right  runner is a Bear Claws pattern.  T
This is a close-up of the Bear Claw pattern

We had a fun day at the craft bazaar, even though we didn't sell very much.

Now, on to gifts....
One of the most fun items that I made this season, was a paper pieced handbell block!  I have been in a handbell choir for many, many years in various churches.  I finally found a beautiful paper pieced pattern to make for our bell choir director!   (http://www.paperpanache.com/free/simplereqs/bell.htm)

My handbell mini quilt for our director, Patti

I machine embroidered our choir name and year,   and the Presbyterian Church symbol.
It is a mug rug size, but I added a small hanging loop on the back so she can hang it up near her piano.

Off to go shopping with my husband. He  asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I just happened  to have (stuffed in my purse, ready to use !!)  a coupon for a discount on Viking accessories.  I would LOVE a specialty foot for my Viking Topaz!  And some fabric , that is  even on sale, at Fabric.com!   He's happy that he doesn't have to come up with an idea of a gift that I want, and you KNOW I am happy Delighted!!

Wishing you and your family a season of delight and blessings!

It is an awesome purse pattern, designed by Samantha, of At Home With Mrs. H.

The Stella Pleated Bag Pattern  by Samantha , At Home With Mrs. H
I am lucky  {smiles}  to be a pattern tester for Samantha, and got to make this stylish  purse  earlier this fall.  I just love the   curve-shaped pleats in this purse!  And , you can make a clutch and  a purse.... there are two sizes!  { She has this pattern, plus 2 other original purse patterns  available for sale in her Etsy shop! }

My  Stella Pleated Bag.... can you see the pleats circling around?
Note the longer across- the -body handle strap
The pattern mentions using  tweed or linen to make the bag, but I saw this fabric and fell in love with it. I used Timeless Treasures  Plume Floral and Diamonds,  in rich tones of  turquoise, royal blues, gold and emerald green. I simply ironed on  Pellon Shape Flex SF 101 interfacing to my  fabric, to give it a little more body for making  the pleats.   This worked perfectly! The pleats were easy to make, and the pattern is easy to follow!

 Inside pockets on both sides!
My daughter saw my bag  and loved it's sassy shape and the long strap!

For a chance to Win the Stella Pleated Bag pattern...
all you have to do is leave a comment, and  include your email address, so I can contact you!    If you need a subject  , you can tell me what you  are sewing  for  a gift/gifts for holiday giving.
*  International visitors/followers are welcome to enter this give away, too!  *
Mr. Random Generator will pick out a  comment  number , for the winner.
The giveway is now closed.

Trio of Trees Placemat

My  Across The Pond Sew Along December Project !

I have been busy these past few weeks, preparing for our Christmas  concert at my church. And decorating our house for Christmas.   But, I did manage to squeeze  sewing into my precious spare moments ... to get started on my December Across The Pond Sew Along project.

December's pattern is designed  by Amanda, of The Patchsmith.  This is her December ATPSA  placemat:
Amanda's Trio of Trees paper pieced placemat
She also made a pattern for the Three Trees Placemat and Napkin , using Applique!

I dug around in my fabric stash, and  got out a pile of Christmas fabric that I had been saving for some " special"  project.
After I finished putting  my placemat together, I realized that I had picked  country primitive colors .   I used to paint with acrylic paints, and really loved to make winter scenes, in dark reds and blacks and hunter greens.

I painted this about 15 years ago
I think this was on my mind, subconsciously, when I picked out the fabrics for my Trio of Trees paper pieced placemat.

This is my placemat:
Susie's ~  Trio of Trees paper pieced placemat and napkin
I used a homespun red and green gingham check  for the main placemat fabric, which has  a linen-like feel to it.  And I fussy cut the cat and the cardinal, from a cute fabric, where we  see them through red window panes.  (I know I will use this fabric for more projects!)
Fussy cut squares of the cat and cardinal
I put snow caps on my 3 little trees
I machine "blanket stitched" my tree on my napkin
My winter house on the hill picture and my Trio of  Trees  placemat

I am going to make my second placemat, on Monday, after the concert. I want to look at them where my husband and I sit to eat, at our peninsula counter.  (Maybe then I will keep it cleared of my piles of fabrics and patterns "to be worked on."   LOL  )

I am going to put my pictures of my placemat in our Across The Pond Sew Along Flickr Group.  ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/2154636@N22/)  Take a look over there and see what we are making!  Join in with us!!

And don't forget to check back here on my blog, on Monday, Dec. 10, for details about my giveaway in the Quilting Gallery Blog Hop Party and Give Away !

So, even in the midst of the hustle and bustle of this holiday season, I hope you find time to sit down and relax  a minute , with a mug of coffee or tea, and think about something or someone that you love .
